Citizens State Bank is proud to welcome Paul Schapira as Vice President, Commercial Credit. With more than three decades of experience across commercial banking, credit management, private equity, and business turnarounds, Paul brings both depth and versatility to the CSB team. His addition underscores our commitment to strengthening our commercial credit capabilities as we continue to grow our presence across Southeast Michigan.

Paul’s financial career began in 1992 and has included senior leadership roles in some of the most demanding and dynamic sectors of finance. His work spans commercial real estate, C&I lending, special assets, distressed credit, and private equity investment. Over the past 30+ years, Paul has advised clients through economic highs and lows, working directly with business owners, lenders, and investors to navigate everything from complex restructurings to strategic growth capital.

Paul also founded Genesis Capital Advisors, where he has spent the last several years advising lower middle market companies on capital raising, loan workouts, real estate restructuring, and business turnarounds. His ability to navigate complex, high-stakes situations with clarity and care has earned him a reputation as a trusted problem-solver and strategic thinker.

Career Highlights & Achievements:

  • Worked for Jay Alix, founder and former CEO of AlixPartners, a global leader in restructuring and turnaround consulting
  • Earned the Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP) designation from the Turnaround Management Association (TMA)
  • Elected to public office as a Member of the Board of Trustees in Oxford Township
  • Serves as Advisor to the Board of Directors for Love in the Name of Christ of North Oakland County
  • Frequently called upon as an expert witness in financial litigation and restructuring cases
  • Successfully owned and operated his own consulting business for 8 years
  • Currently President-Elect of the Detroit Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, where he’s a key contributor to events, panels, and programming
  • Actively gives back as a mentor in the Oxford Addison Youth Assistance Program, helping guide at-risk youth
  • Has led several companies in the role of Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO), helping businesses stabilize and recover in times of distress

Now, as Vice President of Commercial Credit at Citizens State Bank, Paul brings a multidimensional perspective to every deal, combining lender, borrower, and advisor viewpoints to create practical, sustainable solutions for our clients. His ability to anticipate credit risks, navigate regulatory landscapes, and support business growth will play a pivotal role as CSB continues to expand its commercial banking offerings.

Outside the office, Paul enjoys a full and active life; spending time with his wife, children, and two dogs (including one puppy!), playing pickleball, hiking, and staying connected to the local community. He’s a lifelong sports fan and an advocate for youth mentorship.
